About Us

Slugger City Bully Buddies, Inc. strives to bring peace to all bully breed types of dogs through education, advocacy, and awareness.

Our mission is to focus on educating the public about bully breeds, advocating for bully breeds by fighting abuse, neglect, breed discrimination,

and dog fighting, promoting rescue and adoption, raising awareness, and offering free programs for bully breeds.

Education

We work hard to educate the community.
Bullies are energetic, athletic, eager to please, intelligent, and very strong. They need a lot of exercise, attention, and a job!
We also promote spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, city licenses, and enrollment in obedience/training classes and/or some kind of activity such as weight pulling.

Periodically we offer free educational classes for everyone, and free obedience/CGC classes for bully breed owners.

Awareness

Awareness

We raise awareness about pit bulls and other bully breeds. They are not vicious breeds of dog, they will not turn on you, their jaws do not “lock,” and they adore people – especially children!Â
These are all common misconceptions that people fall for and that is what we are working to change.
We’ll show you that pit bulls make great family pets, therapy dogs, SAR dogs, athletes, or just cuddle bugs!

Advocacy

We are advocates. These dogs do not have a voice of their own and have a lot going against them.
Slugger City Bully Buddies wants to change the perception of all bully breed types of dogs. With the help and support of the community, we hope to get there soon!
We are NOT a rescue.
If you have a bully that you need to re-home we may be able to help with social networking provided your dog is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm tested.
We recommend to require a home inspection, adoption contract and re-homing fee during your re-homing process.

How to Help

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the bullies in our community.
Without volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to educate, raise awareness, and most importantly, save lives!

We are always in need of volunteers to help operate booths at events, take photographs of bullies in urgent need of
adoption or rescue, assist with classes and programs, help prepare hand outs and supplies, and much more!

Donations

Financial support from the community helps us fund our free obedience and CGC preparation classes,
educational classes, seminars, community programs, sponsorship for bullies needing rescue, and more.

Second Chances Fund

Our Second Chances Fund assists community bully breeds with vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter, behavioral training and much more.

Fostering

Foster parents for bully breeds in our community is a constant and pressing need.

Many bullies in shelters come from various backgrounds such as neglect, abuse, or just lack of proper socialization and training.

They need to be shown patience, love, care, and trust. It’s a very rewarding experience and one of the best ways to help save lives.

Donated Items

There is always a need for donated supplies such as tables, chairs, tents, printers, printer ink, printer paper, pens, leashes, collars, treats, etc.

Other items such as dog crates/kennels, toys (new), dog food (unopened), dog bowls, blankets, sheets, etc.
that are donated to Slugger City Bully Buddies, Inc., will be given to a shelter or rescue in need of supplies.

Breed Info

According to Bully Breed Magazine, bully breeds are generally medium-sized dogs, muscular, and solidly built with short, glossy coats.
The heads and chests are broad, the topline typically level, and the legs are muscular, well-boned, and straight.
Most have pronounced cheek muscles and a confident, wide-mouthed grin. Bully breeds typically have bulldog or mastiff ancestry.
They are courageous, tenacious, smart, self-assured, and affectionate with people

What is a “Pit Bull”?

The term “Pit Bull” is often used to describe a group of 3 breeds of dog, the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff) and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffie).
They can be difficult to tell apart if you don’t have a trained eye, and this is why they are usually grouped together as one.

Education

Slugger City Bully Buddies, Inc., offers a variety of education through seminars, classes, programs, and activities to help repair the image of bully breeds in our community.
Bully Breeds 101 is a free educational class that will cover topics such as breed history, training and exercise, child safety, legal responsibilities, your bully and other dogs, and much more.

Who should attend? Anyone who is interested in adopting or owning a bully, has a bully, or just wants to learn more about the breeds

LMAS Pit Crew

Pit Crew is Partnership Project with Louisville Metro Animal Services

Slugger City Bully Buddies is proud to announce a partnership with Louisville Metro Animal Services to establish a PitBulls in Training (P.I.T.) Crew. This dedicated group of volunteers will first enroll in SCBB’s Training Apprentice Program where they will learn the fundamentals of force free progressive reinforcement dog training. Once volunteers have graduated from TAP, they will begin working with adoptable pit bulls at LMAS to help teach them basic manners and life skills such as sit, down, loose leash walking, settle on a mat, sit for greetings/petting and more!

In addition, P.I.T. Crew will be working with staff to reduce kennel stress, build more community outreach programs and provide additional behavior education opportunities to staff and volunteers at LMAS.
